Geospatial Technology Communicate Industry Needs; Curriculum Evaluation, Planning, and Development U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation -
U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF): The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) accredits post-secondary certificate programs in geospatial intelligence. The Accreditation Guidelines feature a curriculum framework based on the Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM), developed as a collaboration between the Employment and Training Administration and education and industry leaders. Accreditation applicants must demonstrate how their courses align with the GTCM framework to ensure their programs teach the competencies required by industry.

Geospatial Technology Competency Model Drives Innovation: National and state organizations-the GeoTech Center, GeoTEd, and the National Information Security Geospatial Technologies Consortium-are actively utilizing ETA's Geospatial Technology Competency Model in a variety of innovative interconnected initiatives. These uses include the aligning curricula with employer requirements, professional development for faculty and teachers, creating career awareness of opportunities, and developing articulation/dual enrollment agreements. Using the Geospatial Technology Competency Model to Align Curricula with Workforce Needs:
Dr. Don Boyes, a senior lecturer in geographic information systems at the University of Toronto, is a believer in ETA's Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM). In 2011, he successfully used the GTCM as a conceptual framework in his periodic curriculum review process. As a result of the 2011 analysis, Dr. Boyes was able to identify specific gaps in his GIS curricula, both for specialists and casual users. He plans to revisit this process in 2014.
