Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Competency Model: SME (formerly known as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers) and the Institute for Defense Analysis have released a groundbreaking study in which they document how they worked with industry and government stakeholders to develop an Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Competency Model (ADMCM). The study notes that there are not enough government procurement personnel with experience in designing, developing, and producing today's technologically advanced manufacturing products. In addition, manufacturing companies are having difficulty hiring skilled labor. To help address these concerns, the ADMCM will be used to develop the existing workforce and define competencies for curricula for new entrants.
