The Automation Competency Model framework was developed through a collaborative effort involving the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and industry experts from the Automation Federation.

To ensure that the model reflects the knowledge and skills needed by today's automation professionals ETA worked with its industry partners to update the original model. Completed in September 2011, the updated model contains new information on Sustainability, as well as updated key behaviors in several competency areas.
