BUILD YOUR OWN COMPETENCY MODELS AND CAREER LADDERS/LATTICES

The Competency Model Clearinghouse now offers two tools for users.
The enhanced Competency Model Tool enables user to customize national industry competency model frameworks to reflect the specific workforce needs of regional economies. The Career Ladder/Lattice Tool enables user to build career ladders on the foundation of an industry competency model and generates a graphic that illustrates the progression and advancement potential among jobs.
These interactive tools let strategic partners build, save, and download materials that assist business, educators, and workforce professionals in identifying the skills and critical developmental experiences individuals should acquire to progress successfully through 21st century careers. ETA and industry representatives have developed 2 new industry models:
Water Sector Competency Model
Mechatronics Competency Model

Uses of Competency Models

ETA's Office of Policy Development and Research released a paper that discusses the relevant literature on the use of competency models for business and workforce needs. See the paper for information on the challenges presented when using competency models for employee selection and appraisal functions -- Competency Models: A Review of the Literature and the Role of the Employment and Training Administration (ETA).

Find Competency Model Resources

The Find Resources section has a new feature to allow you to 'Refine Search Results'. There are thousands of resources in the CMC database; a search frequently displays many records for a user to sort through. Now, after conducting an initial search, you can click on the Refine Search Results button to specify additional search criteria to target the results better and reduce the number of results to a more manageable list. Additional resources have been added to the database of resources which now includes over 1700 related links.
