ReEmployment Site for Auto Workers

U.S. Department of Labor Launches ReEmployment site for auto workers. Workers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio will find quick links to their state's resources for unemployment benefits, healthcare options, benefit programs, job search assistnace, and more. The portal also links workers to wage, employment, and skills and training requirements informiation for the top related occupations of many vehicle manufacturing jobs.

Updated Certification Finder

CareerOneStop's Certification Finder now lets users search for certifications by type, including Common, Advanced, Specialty, Product/Equipment, and Skill. The results then list certifications first by type, and then alphabetically by organization.

New America's Service Locator

America's Service Locator will soon have a brand-new look and feel. The changes will make it easier for users to locate American Job Centers and other local employment, training, and economic development service providers.

April-June 2009 Updates

New Green Job Section

Visit Career Voyages' new Green Jobs section for information and resources on this growing employment sector.  You'll find a discussion of the future of green careers as well as information on green jobs in the Energy; Construction; Transportation; Advanced Manufacturing; and Agriculture and Natural Resources industries.

You'll find improved occupation matching on CareerOneStop's Military to Civilian Occupation Translator allowing service members to match military skills and experience to civilian occupations.

Green Occupation Resources

O*NET has released a report examining the impact of the "green economy" on occupations. Read "Greening of the World of Work"  and look for more information about green jobs soon on CareerOneStop.

America's Service Locator

America's Service Locator has a new look and feel. It's easier than ever to locate your local American Job Center and other employment-related services. You can also find workforce system contacts and strategic partners such as Workforce Investment Boards, community colleges, local employers, and more.

July-September 2009 Updates

Overqualified Job Seekers

In a tight job market, many job seekers begin looking at jobs that require less experience or education than their previous positions. A new CareerOneStop section provides valuable tips for overqualified job seekers.

Job seekers can learn to:

  • Follow Your Interests and find a job opening that really attracts you.
  • Target Your Resume and keep it out of the "overqualified and won’t stick around" discard pile.
  • Use Your Interview to sell your extra qualifications as a positive instead of a negative.
  • Make Your Education Work for You by focusing on workplace skills and accomplishments rather than degrees or academic honors.
  • Negotiate with Caution to avoid getting thrown out of the candidate pool by unrealistic salary requirements.

Pay for Training

Find out all the information you about paying for training at CareerOneStop's "Pay for Training" section. Investment Act (WIA) training help. Services vary by state, so workers should contact their local American Job Center.  Also, the federal Pell Grant program can provide up to $5,300 for costs at community colleges, colleges and universities, and many trade and technical schools. Students should first fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. Find it online at

Short-term Training Finder

CareerOneStop's new Short-term Training Finder lets you serch for training programs in your local area where you can earn a certificate, diploma, or award in less than two years.
