Transition Assistance Resources

Returning to civilian life after military service is different for every person. A wide variety of services exist to make this transition as smooth as possible. Additional transition resources are listed below.

Transitional Resources for Veterans

Attending a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) seminar helps veterans make informed post-deployment career and education decisions. This three-day workshop is available for those separating from the military beginning 12 months prior to separation. Individuals retiring from active duty can begin receiving services 24 months prior to retirement.

TAP is offered to all military branches through a partnership among the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Labor’s Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS).

Veterans' job or training assistance?

Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVER) and Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) representatives can help veterans with benefits. These representatives can meet with veterans at their local One-Stop Career Center to assist with finding a job, training or education assistance.

Each county has a Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) available to describe transition services and other veteran benefits available. Veterans can find their CVSO by using the State Resources section of this web site or by contacting their county courthouse.
