License Description
JOB DESCRIPTION Massage therapy is a health care service, which applies massage for therapeutic purposes. The manipulations include stroking, kneading, percussion, compression, vibration, friction, and nerve strokes, and are administered by hand or with mechanical or electrical apparatus. Massage therapists also use oils, salt glows, heat lamps, hot and cold packs, and tub, shower, or cabinet baths in their works. They do not diagnose or treat illness or disease. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS * 18 years old * Specialized education and training Examination * Written examinations Restrictions on Licensing * Conviction or plea of no lo contendere or guilty, or receipt of deferred adjudication to crimes related to prostitution or sexual offenses * Fraudulent procurement of licensure * Engaging in unprofessional conduct that has endangered or is likely to endanger the health, welfare or safety of the public * Violations of the Massage Therapy Act * Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor of moral turpitude within the last 5 years Approximate Fees * $117 Application * $106 License renewal bi-annual EDUCATION/TRAINING * Completion of a 500-hour course at an approved massage therapy school with 200 hours of massage therapy course work * Continuing education of twelve hours per biennial renewal period
