Purpose To support and encourage more diverse candidates to enter the practice of law and to diversify and enrich both the firm and profession.
Focus Law.
Qualifications Applicants must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school and seek to practice law in Rhode Island or Massachusetts after graduation; must have successfully completed applicants first year of a full-time, ABA-accredited JD program by the application deadline, with an expected graduation date of spring next year; the AP&S scholarship is to be used exclusively for law school tuition and related expenses; recipients will provide an accounting of the use of the scholarship proceeds on or before December 31st of the year that the scholarship was awarded; must not be the recipient of a similar fellowship or scholarship award from another law firm; must also meet the following requirements: residency in Massachusetts or Rhode Island and/or a strong commitment to reside in either state upon graduation; strong academic achievement; financial need; demonstrated commitment to the community, relevant life experiences, resilience in overcoming obstacles, and proven leadership; vision of contributions to the profession and community after graduation.

To Apply Applicants must submit online application form; complete application package must include the following items: a certified copy of applicants college transcript; a certified law school transcript; a copy of applicants FAFSA [required for scholarship consideration] and any other financial aid application, as well as any financial aid applicants have been offered by applicants law school and by any other source; photo ID (i.e. driver’s license, etc.); a signed statement that applicants are a U.S. Citizen, Green Card holder and/or authorized to work in the United States; curriculum vitae; legal writing sample; two (2) letters of recommendation from persons who are not related to applicants and who are familiar with applicants academic achievements, character and commitment to the community; a one to two page personal statement addressing: applicants reasons for studying law and applicants plans and goals upon graduation from law school; applicants professional goals including how applicants intend to contribute to the community.
